Limo hire East Auckland: knowing the area
- Howick: a seaside village with its own main street, historic churches and Cockle Bay and Mellons Bay nearby. Picton Street is a good spot for a pre-dinner meet-up.
- Pakuranga: large residential area around the town centre and Te Tuhi arts centre. Pakuranga Road and Ti Rakau Drive have had major roadworks for the Eastern Busway, so allow extra time.
- Botany: the big shopping and dining hub of the east, surrounded by newer suburbs such as Dannemora and Flat Bush.
- Half Moon Bay: the marina and ferry terminal, handy if part of your group is arriving by ferry.
- Bucklands Beach: a narrow peninsula with water on both sides and one main road along it. Houses near the end can take a while to reach at busy times.
- Ellerslie and Panmure edge: Ellerslie has the racecourse and event centre, and Panmure sits by the basin and the Tāmaki River crossing.
Routes from the east: South Eastern Highway or Tamaki Drive
There are two very different ways into the city from the east, and the one you pick changes the feel of the trip.
- South Eastern Highway: from Pakuranga over the Panmure Bridge, past Mt Wellington and on to SH1. The practical, direct choice for the CBD, Newmarket or Mt Smart.
- Tamaki Drive: the coastal route through Glen Innes, St Heliers, Kohimarama and Mission Bay, then along the waterfront into the city. Slower, but with harbour and Rangitoto views the whole way. Ideal for a sightseeing leg or an evening that starts with dinner by the beach.
For flights, the usual route to the airport is via East Tāmaki and SH1 or SH20. Add your flight number in the notes, and see our airport transfer page for how terminal pickups work.
Photo stops in East Auckland
- Howick Historical Village: restored colonial buildings in Pakuranga that suit period-style photos. It is a separate attraction with its own rules and opening times, so check with the village first.
- Musick Point: at the tip of the Bucklands Beach peninsula, with wide views over the Hauraki Gulf. Access to some areas has changed over time, so confirm before planning a stop here.
- Bucklands Beach and Eastern Beach: sheltered beaches with promenades for sunset shots.
- Mission Bay and St Heliers: on Tamaki Drive, with the city skyline in the distance.
Balls and weddings in the east
The east has several large secondary schools, so ball season is busy. Groups often meet at one home in Howick, Botany or Pakuranga, take photos, and then head to the venue. If your group is more than 10, book both limos. See our affordable school ball limos in Howick guide for a ball-night plan.
For brides, Pakuranga and Howick suit a quiet start at home followed by a coastal photo stop on the way to the ceremony. Our guide to bridal transport in Pakuranga goes through the wedding day timeline.
