Parents’ Guide to School Ball Transport in Auckland

This parents’ guide to school ball transport in Auckland covers what to decide, in what order, and what to tell your limo company. Our school ball hire starts from $900 for 2 hours in a stretch limo with a professional chauffeur. One limo carries up to 10 passengers, and both limos carry up to 20.

Step 1: Agree the plan with other parents

Ball transport is usually a group decision. Before anyone books, agree on:

• Who is in the group and roughly how many
• Where everyone will meet for family photos
• Whether the limo covers only the trip to the ball, or the ride home as well
• Which parent will be the organiser and contact

Step 2: Set the budget

School ball hire starts from $900 for 2 hours. Most groups share the cost, so the per-person amount depends on how many seats you fill. Our guide to splitting the cost has a worked example. Extra hours, extra pickups and a second limo all change the price, so get a quote for your actual plan.

Step 3: Build the timeline

Work backwards from the time your teenager needs to arrive at the ball. Here is an example only:

Your times will depend on where you live and where the ball is. Allow extra for peak traffic on motorways such as SH1, SH16 and SH20, and for the Auckland Harbour Bridge if you are coming from the North Shore.

Step 4: Fill in the quote form

The online form has five steps:

1. Occasion: choose school ball
2. Date and pickup time
3. Limo choice, number of passengers and hours
4. Pickup suburb and destination
5. Your name, mobile and email, plus optional notes such as extra pickups and photo stops

We reply with a price and availability. Use the notes for any question we have not answered on the site, such as deposit or cancellation terms.

Step 5: Before the night

• Share the run sheet with every family and with your chauffeur.
• Collect each student’s name and a parent’s mobile number.
• Check the school’s instructions for drop-off at the venue.
• Pick a pickup spot with a long stretch of kerb, as a stretch limo needs room to pull in.

On the night

• Have the group ready a few minutes before pickup. Late starts cut into photo time.
• Stick to the agreed stops.
• Keep the organiser’s phone on.

The ride home

Decide this in Step 1, not at 11pm. If the limo is collecting at the end of the night, give the pickup time and every drop-off address in your request. If not, make sure each family knows who is collecting their teenager.
